History of Segovia
Segovia’s history can be traced back its Celtic origins, but the City truly flourished under Roman rule. The aqueduct (1st Century AD)t is a clear evidence of this past and it is Segovia´s top icon. as evidenced by the iconic aqueduct built in the 1st century AD. During the Middle Ages, Segovia became a very important Castilian city, playing a key role in trade (mainly wool) and politics. Segovia was no less than the place where Queen Isabella I was proclaimed queen in 1474, marking a pivotal moment in Spanish history. Over the centuries, Segovia thrived as a cultural and architectural gem, blending Romanesque, Gothic, and Mudéjar styles, leaving a rich legacy that endures today. It boasts a superb Alcazar or castle, fantastic palaces and one of Europe´s latest Gothic cathedrals.
